Nico Humby is a illustrative design. printmaker and creative based in Brooklyn, NY. Passionate, observant, and inventive, he engages with many outlets that pull influence from one another. Growing up across Canada with traveling parents, he focused his efforts on art, photography, music, and acting classes, always drawn in by the creativity of the arts. His Bachelor of Design in Photography degree at Alberta University of Art & Design (formerly ACAD) was a natural choice.

After completing his degree, musical opportunities arose as Nico discovered the world of Bluegrass and began touring with groups from Canada and the United States. He has been fortunate to travel the world across North America, Europe, and Australia to spread the joy of Bluegrass and cultivate design clients and experience. All this time on the road has gifted him with a specialized niche of global clients for design, illustration, and photography work, including but not limited to album art or musician portraits.

At the beginning of 2021, a year into the COVID-19 pandemic and with music touring on an indefinite hiatus, Nico took the opportunity to leap headfirst into a full-time design business. He developed his skills in design and illustration and learned new techniques such as printmaking and woodworking which now prominently feature in his artistic practice. He draws heavy influence from his background in photography: play between light and shadow; glimpses of quiet moments. With a concentration in colour and aesthetics, he illustrates both enticing scenes of places he’s traveled and ethereal scenes he wishes to visit. A consistent theme throughout his work is the bond between the natural and artificial: a fraught relationship whose harmful history he hopes to help reverse with a commitment both to commentative art and to the environment.

Nico co-founded and organizes OddBird Art & Craft Fair, a popular Edmonton craft market. Along with adaptive managerial work and co-organization, he participates as a vendor and sells his personal work.
